New Jersey SkillsUSA 2019 Membership Challenge

In order to build our statewide membership, we kicked off the 2019 Membership Challenge on November 1 with a goal on increasing our statewide membership by at least 10%.

We are offering special incentives for the chapters that experience the largest growth.  There will be three prizes awarded, one per region, each consisting of a $500 gift card for the SkillsUSA Store, also known as E-Group. The deadline for the 2019 Membership Challenge is January 15, 2019.

Here are some tips from the national office on building membership:

      Top Five Recruitment Activities :

  • Give a welcome gift. When students pay SkillsUSA dues, provide a small welcome gift. Giveaways may include T-shirts, water bottles, hats or other promotional items. The gift is something tangible that members can hold onto right away. Plus, these items may start future conversations about SkillsUSA with other potential members.

  • Offer top recruiter awards. Reward members for sharing information about SkillsUSA and chapter activities. Track recruiting numbers throughout the month or even year and reward the top recruiter or recruiters with a special prize. Prizes might include chapter promotional items, free conference registration or gift cards.

  • Hold an open meeting. Advertise an open chapter meeting. Have several members welcome students and answer questions. After the meeting, ensure that someone follows up by directly asking potential members to join the chapter.

  • Have a SkillsUSA informational booth. Promote and recruit at an open house, school enrollment or during lunch. Include information about SkillsUSA and how to become a member. When feasible, have current members available to answer questions.

  • Organize a special activity for chapter members. Use fields trips to motivate students to pay dues in a timely manner. Select a leadership conference or leadership lecture at the start of the year and invite all chapter members to attend.

Enter the SkillsUSA/CareerSafe Video Contest

SkillsUSA is partnering with CareerSafe for a safety video competition. Teens across the country are challenged to create a video demonstrating safety in the workplace.

CareerSafe, Safety Education for America’s Future, is sponsoring the 2018-19 National Youth Safety Video Contest. The competition kicked off Oct. 16, and all submissions need to be sent into CareerSafe by March 1. The winning students will receive a SkillsUSA prize package as well as a scholarship up to $2,500. The winning school will receive a prize up to $5,000.

Every seven minutes, a teen is hospitalized because of a workplace injury. Every two minutes, a teen is injured in the workplace. Every five days, a teen is killed in the workplace. The competition helps raise awareness about this important issue.

Note: This is not part of the SkillsUSA Championships competitions and has no impact on a student’s eligibility to compete in a state contest.

2019 National Conference Pin and T-shirt Design Challenge Opens

SkillsUSA is sponsoring a national conference pin and T-shirt design challenge that is open to all dues-paying student members of the organization. The winning designs will become the official pin or T-shirt for the 2019 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. The pin and T-shirt will be produced by the SkillsUSA Store.

Two designs will be selected. One will be used for the pin and one for the T-shirt. All designs submitted should be appropriate for use on a pin or T-shirt. All entries must be submitted to SkillsUSA exactly as directed in the rules below, and all entries become the property of SkillsUSA once submitted. Only one entry/design per SkillsUSA member is permitted.

Please read all of the following information carefully before beginning so as not to be disqualified.
