Fall Leadership Conference Update

We are pleased to provide the following updated information about the NJ CTSO Unified Fall Leadership Connection 2020, November 16, 17, 18, 19 (3:30 to 5:30 PM).

SkillsUSA, along with five other career and technical student organizations, is putting the final touches on the agenda.  For the first time ever, SkillsUSA members will be able to participate in workshops and presentations from student leaders representing other CTSO's.  Since leadership is the common theme, there will be over 50 relevant training sessions to choose from.  The full agenda will be published in early November so advisors can guide their students to sessions that will be most beneficial.

Regarding this novel format, new content will be released according to the following schedule:

  • November 16 - Membership

  • November 17 - Leadership

  • November 18 - Community Service

  • November 19 - Contest Updates

A “live” introduction will be presented daily by state officers from each CTSO. Daily content will become available at 3:30 pm, after which the sessions will be archived for viewing at a later time.  We are suggesting a 3:30 - 5:30 pm window of participation so that all students are available.  There will be daily games and prizes to incentivize students to fully participate.  Additionally, there will be “live” motivational speakers kicking off everything on Monday and closing the conference on Thursday.

Finally, you are reminded that the Fall Leadership Connection 2020 is open to ALL of your students.  Traditionally our fall conference has been limited to voting delegates and state officers.  This year we are hoping for maximum participation, and the $5.00 registration fee was established to facilitate chapter wide participation.

SkillsUSA Championships Update

We have been anxiously waiting for SkillsUSA to announce plans for the 2021 National Leadership and Skills Conference since everything we do at the state level must align with the national technical standards. It has just been established that on November 16 there will be an announcement regarding virtual and/or in person national competitions.  At the state level we have made a commitment to conduct in person competitions in March-April, 2021, while at the same time adhering to all social distance requirements.

Here are important dates for your planning purposes:

  • November 16 - national contest technical standards are announced

  • December 1 - NJ SkillsUSA Championships Contestant Registration Booklet will be published

  • January 15 - deadline for registering your state competitors

The 2021 Esthetics Competition Theme is “Carnival”.

This theme was selected by the Esthetics National Technical Committee to provide students with the opportunity to bring some extra “fun and excitement” to their event.   The committee thought this theme could bring “bright colors and fun activities that would be refreshing” to the competitions in this otherwise crazy year. We are looking forward to seeing all the “fun and exciting” designs our students will create with this year’s Esthetics theme!

SkillsUSA Week 2021 — T-shirt Design Contest
